Forestry

Highlands Ranch has an expanding suburban forest.  In fact, there are 3,465 trees in our community's parks.  The areas along parkways adjacent to main arterial roads are populated with 12,100 trees.  These trees are maintained by the Metro District Forestry staff.

Tree Care Tips From the Forestry Crew
The Metro District's Forestry Crew has developed a resource of tree watering tips.  Below, you will find links to the crew's suggestions for seasonal tree care practices.  Pictured in the photo to the left is the Metro District's Forestry Crew.

Highlands Ranch Named Tree City USA For 19th Consecutive Year
Highlands Ranch has been named as a Tree City USA for the sixteenth
consecutive year by the National Arbor Day Foundation, thanks to the efforts of the Metro District's Forestry Crew.  Our community also received the Tree City USA Growth Award for the fifteenth consecutive year.

Arbor Day
J.
Sterling Morton, an early pioneer in Nebraska, founded Arbor Day to encourage tree planting and care.

Originally celebrated April 10, 1885, the Metro District annually celebrates Arbor Day in Highlands Ranch.  In 2007, the celebration involved more than 25 energetic volunteers who planted trees at Cheese Ranch Historic & Natural Area.  Read more about Arbor Day and J. Sterling Morton at www.arborday.org.
