| Community Gardens
The Metro District has designated three sites in
Highlands Ranch as community gardens. Each site accommodates 22 to 32
gardeners, providing space, amended soil, a water source, and a fenced area in
which to grow fruits, flowers and vegetables from May 1 through October 31 each
year. The gardens are strictly organic. No chemical pesticides or
fertilizers are permitted.
To Register For a Garden Plot . . .

Gardeners are required to pay a seasonal fee of $35
($41 for non-residents) and sign a community garden
agreement that details the program and releases the Metro District from claims
or liabilities related to gardening activities. All 2008 garden plots
have been rented.
Garden plots are first offered to the previous
year's gardeners. Remaining plots are promoted in the Metro District
Messenger magazine and the Highlands Ranch Herald. A waiting list starts January 2, and plots are allocated after March 1.
In some instances, the seasonal fee will be
waived. Organizations such as schools, churches and other non-profit
agencies wishing to garden for the purpose of enhancing education and/or
donating crops to food banks, may be granted a garden plot at no charge.
