Capital Improvements
& Management Activities
The Metro District's Public Works Department is responsible for:
- Construction of major pipe systems, culverts and
regional detention ponds.
- Management of stormwater facilities in open space
corridors. Examples include channel stabilization and bank protection projects.
- Work with the Metro District's Open Space staff
to monitor progress of the wetlands.
These activities are closely coordinated internally
with Metro District's Parks & Open Space staff and externally with regional
organizations like the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD), Douglas
County Engineering and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USCOE).
2008 Projects
The section of the Big Dry Creek drainage between
Big Dry Park and the bridge on the Grand View trail will be improved this year
with channel stabilization efforts. This work will entail construction of
structures in the drainage way.
Projects currently under construction are at Sand Creek Park. The
improvements include a reconstruction of the trail crossing and channel
stabilization in Dad Clark Gulch, west of the trail crossing. For more
information, please click here. There will also be some repairs to the
project in Dad Clark Gulch, south of Gateway Drive.
The Metro District is also planning some wetlands
and open space plantings this spring. These planning projects typically utilize volunteers to do the
work.
Flood Control
The Metro District cooperates with Douglas County and the Urban Drainage and Flood
Control District (UDFCD) to build and manage flood control ponds in the community.
Through a system of regional stormwater detention ponds and open space drainage
ways, all commercial and residential properties in the community are located outside
the 100 year flood plain, per Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) criteria.
Flood plain maps and release letters may be obtained
by contacting the Douglas County Building Division at 303-660-7497, or at
http://www.douglas.co.us/Departments.html.
