Public
Outreach & Educational Activities
Complementing parks and open space activities, area residents are offered opportunities
to participate in activities to help protect and enhance the open space channels.
An example of this is an open space or wetlands planting day. If you or
your group is interested in a volunteer project, please call 303-791-0430.
Pictured below is a group of youth who helped
plant native shrubs in the open space channels along Big Dry Creek.
The Metro District's Public Works staff is also
developing initiatives aimed at educating the public about stormwater management,
pollution prevention and flood control. The educational materials will focus on
the role the public can play in protecting our open space from pollutants.
Look for our educational ads that are currently published monthly in the Douglas
County News-Press. For
more information, please contact Forrest Dykstra at 303-791-0430, ext. 4925, or

The Metro District's Public Works staff is also
part of the Douglas County Stormwater Co-op, which includes members from various
agencies and municipalities in Douglas County. The group meets monthly
(first Tuesday of the month) at the Lone Tree Civic
Center. The meetings begin at 10 a.m. and are open to the public for comments.
