Water
Quality
The Metro District adheres to EPA and Colorado Department of Public Health (CDPH)
water quality regulations and cooperates with Centennial Water & Sanitation
District (CWSD) to protect community water sources like McLellan Reservoir. Water
quality is addressed both physically (water quality ponds) and through programs
(public education of pollution prevention, erosion control and grading permits).
The Metro District's municipal separate storm
sewer system (MS4) is the open space drainage ways. The Metro District's
goal for improving stormwater quality in these drainage ways is focused on
reducing the pollutants to the system and improving the drainage ways to provide
wetlands and riparian habitat to filter the stormwater. This is
accomplished with the Metro District's channel stabilization program which is in
cooperation with UDFCD and Douglas County. This program is funded by the
stormwater fee and funds from UDFCD. The Metro District distributes
brochures in water bills about how to reduce these pollutants. One of the goals
of the Metro District is to reduce litter and trash which is a focus of our
public education programs.
If a spill of hazardous materials has occurred,
please notify the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at 303-660-7500 and the Metro
Districts at 303-791-0430.
