The McGruff House Program

McGruff House participants offer their residences as a temporary haven for children in emergency or frightening situations, such as being bullied, followed, or hurt while walking in a neighborhood. Participants provide emergency assistance for children going to and from school or playing in the area.

This assistance can include telephoning appropriate authorities for help, reporting crimes and suspicious activities to law enforcement officers, aiding children who are frightened or lost, and assisting children with medical emergencies by getting them the help they need.

McGruff House participants do not enforce laws. They also do not provide first aid in emergency situations, toilet facilities, food or beverages, or a place to warm up or cool down.

Get Involved!
Apply for your residence to become a McGruff House. All applicants must submit to a background check by the Douglas County Sheriff’s office and participate in a one-hour McGruff House training session.

To learn more about getting involved with the McGruff House program in your neighborhood, call 303-791-0430 or download the McGruff House Program application.
