Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument Reaches Initial $200,000 Goal

After three years of fundraising, the Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument (HRVM) Committee has reached its initial $200,000 fundraising goal. Thanks to a $500 contribution and accompanying award from the South Metro Denver Realtor’s Association (SMDRA), and proceeds from a local golf tournament, the HRVM’s fundraising total now stands at $207,255. The golf tournament was presented by the Highlands Ranch Metro District, Centennial Water & Sanitation District and the Highlands Ranch Park & Recreation Foundation.

HRVM fundraising efforts continue until the monument’s costs are covered, and to pay for ongoing maintenance costs. Tax-deductible Dedication Tiles are available to honor loved ones who have served, or who serve today in the United States military. More than 430 Dedication Tiles have been sold and are on display at the monument.

Celebrate Veteran’s Day at the Monument

Join the Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument Committee as we celebrate Veteran’s Day at the Monument on Wednesday, November 11 from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m.  Recognize veterans and those currently serving in the military at the newly-completed Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument.

If you haven’t visited the Monument yet, Veteran’s Day is an ideal day for a first visit.  There will be a presentation of colors by the Highlands Ranch American Legion Post, readings of veterans' personal histories, a performance by the Cougar Run Elementary choir and the opportunity to purchase Dedication Tiles.

Parking is available in the RTD lot and around Civic Green Park.  Special needs passenger drop-off is available via the Highlands Ranch Library parking lot.

For more information about the event, or if you have questions, please contact Marsha Sliter at 720-240-4931, or at msliter@highlandsranch.org.

Enjoy a Great Meal and Help Raise Money for the Veterans Monument

Help Our Soldiers by Writing Letters & Sending Supplies

The Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument Committee invites children and teens to write letters or cards to soldiers to celebrate Veteran’s Day.  Handmade cards, drawings, or letters are appreciated.  No envelopes are necessary.

Happy messages, thanks, holiday greetings, letters talking about fun things in your life, school, favorite sports, pets—any of these stories would be greatly enjoyed.   Please do not include political views.

Simply place the card or letter in the designated box in the children’s section at the Highlands Ranch Library, and Soldiers’ Angels will send the cards and letters to soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Soldiers’ Angels is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing aid and comfort to the men and women in all branches of the military and their families. Founded by the mother of two American soldiers, it is an international, volunteer-led organization supporting America’s men and women in uniform.

Soldiers’ Angels is currently holding a white sock and fleece blanket drive.  If you would like to donate socks or blankets, you may drop them off at the Highlands Ranch Library, or at Allstate Insurance - Colaizzi Agency, located at 3624 Highlands Ranch Parkway.

The deadline to drop off socks, blankets and cards or letters is Monday, November 16.
