Help the Metro District determine the future of Historic Park
For Highlands Ranch residents and visitors, the Highlands Ranch Mansion has long been a beloved landmark, and its story is far from over. On April 30, 2026, Shea Homes conveyed 197 acres of ranch land to the Metro District, expanding the area owned and managed by the organization around the Mansion to nearly 250 acres. This is an exciting development in our community, and the best part? You get a say in what it becomes!
The land sits adjacent to the Mansion at 9950 E. Gateway Drive and is centrally located within the community, nestled between Highlands Ranch Parkway to the north and Wildcat Reserve Parkway to the south. It features open pastureland, sweeping mountain views, 13 historic barns and farm buildings, and an iconic windmill.
The vision for this property is to preserve it as a passive park, a natural, heritage-focused space where residents can explore the outdoors, connect with the history of the region, and enjoy the beauty that makes Highlands Ranch special. There will be no sports fields, and any future uses must complement existing Mansion programming.
Community outreach is kicking off with a series of neighborhood and community meetings this summer. While there’s a general consensus on preserving the property's historical features, we are gathering feedback to better understand the community’s vision and desires for the newly acquired property.
All meetings will be held at the Highlands Ranch Senior Center, 200 E. Highlands Ranch Parkway:
- Community Meeting #1: Wednesday, June 17, 5:30 p.m.
- Community Meeting #2: Wednesday, July 22, 3 p.m.
- Community Meeting #3: Monday, Aug. 17, 5:30 p.m.
