At the Sept. 28 board meeting, the Highlands Ranch Metro District Board of Directors passed a resolution supporting the Douglas County School District’s 5A and 5B ballot measures.

Board members point to the combined community goal of ensuring Douglas County is an attractive place to live, work and play. Per the resolution, passage of DCSD’s mill levy override and bond initiatives will benefit every student, family and staff member, along with the entire Douglas County community.  

“It is important to our community to invest in students by supporting and keeping our amazing teachers here in Douglas County,” said Board Chair Mark Dickerson. “Through the 5A mill levy override, we understand that teachers will receive a 9% average pay increase.”

“Supporting the 5B initiative, which is a bond issue for homeowners, involves adding new neighborhood schools, addressing growth in the county and maintaining our aging schools and transportation,” said Board Vice Chair Andy Jones. “According to the initiative, the total tax impact of both the MLO and bond on homeowners would be $1 per week per $100,000 in home value, so this is a smart approach to investing in our community. It’s also important to note the school district has only passed one construction bond and one MLO in 16 years.”
