NRPA's Park and Recreation Month Build Together Play Together logo.Since our first park was built in 1982, the Metro District has provided Highlands Ranch with safe, inclusive places to play and learn. This July, join us in celebrating how parks and recreation make our community stronger and more vibrant during Park and Recreation Month. Created by the National Recreation and Park Association, the month specifically highlights the essential and powerful role of local park and recreation professionals.

Our dedicated staff cares for 26 parks, 70+ miles of trail, and 2,644 acres of open space. Our staff is constantly working hard to build spaces where residents can create lasting memories.

The Metro District Board of Directors plays an important role and prioritizes funding for maintenance and improvements to our open space, parks and playgrounds. in 2025, the Metro District is investing $12.4 million in our infrastructure. Some of the highlights include big changes at Toepfer Park and a new 19-court outdoor pickleball complex that will be located at S. Broadway and County Line Road. Funds for these projects come from several sources, including Colorado Lottery Proceeds, property taxes, cell site leases and a stormwater fee.

Follow us on social media throughout July to see the ways we #BuildTogetherPlayTogether!
