Plan for possible power outages Dec. 17

Post Date:12/16/2025 3:00 p.m.

Orange alert symbol with the text "Plan for possible power outages Wednesday, December 17."Xcel Energy is monitoring a strong wind event which may cause unplanned power outages tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 17. Strong winds and extremely dry conditions increase the wildfire risk across the Front Range. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning.

Xcel Energy is preparing for a likely Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) beginning around noon Wednesday, throughout the Front Range. A PSPS is a preventative step that temporarily turns off power to reduce the risk of wildfires caused by damaged power lines. Visit Xcel’s webpage for updates.

Highlands Ranch is no longer in this PSPS area for a planned outage, but residents should be aware that conditions may lead to unplanned outages due to Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings that will be activated. These settings may result in additional outages if problems are detected and they can extend restoration times because crews must inspect lines before restoring power.

If you lose power, please do not call 911.
