Metro District receives ranchland from Shea Homes

Post Date:05/29/2026 7:00 p.m.

Current Metro District board members pose with current and past Shea employees in front of a gazebo at the Highlands Ranch Mansion. The Highlands Ranch Metro District recently celebrated the conveyance of approximately 197 acres of ranchland from Shea Homes. This conveyance expands the future Historic Park to almost 250 acres for the benefit of the community. It features pastureland, 13 existing outbuildings and the iconic windmill that stands on the elevated hill south of the Highlands Ranch Mansion, 9950 E. Gateway Drive.

This is the next chapter in a story that began more than 45 years ago with a bold vision to create one of Colorado’s most vibrant and livable communities. Years of dedication, partnership, and thoughtful planning has shaped the place we’re proud to call home today.

Our community partners recently joined us to mark the occasion at the Mansion. We enjoyed celebrating with some of the individuals who championed Highlands Ranch from the very beginning. This milestone reflects decades of vision, commitment, and collaboration, and it’s only the beginning.

Stay tuned for opportunities to share your ideas and help shape the future of Historic Park. Learn more at highlandsranch.org/historicpark.
