Fishing in Highlands Ranch
Grab your fishing pole and visit any of the convenient fishing holes in our community. These ponds are stocked seasonally.
While fishing in Highlands Ranch, visitors must adhere to the state fishing regulations – anyone 16 and older must have a fishing license. We encourage catch and release at all of our ponds, and ice fishing is prohibited.
Cheese Ranch Historic & Natural Area
Location: 9191 Sugarstone Circle

Directions: The pond at Cheese Ranch Historic & Natural Area is tucked into a neighborhood north of University and south of Gleneagles Village Pkwy. To find the pond, take Crosspointe Dr. north from University and turn right on Sugarstone Cir. Park along Sugarstone Cir. and walk to Cheese Ranch Historic & Natural Area via one of two trail spurs accessible along Sugarstone Cir.
Fly’n B Pond
Location: 2910 Plaza Drive
Fish Species:
- Channel Catfish
- Bluegill
- Largemouth Bass
Directions: Fly’n B Park is located in the northwestern part of Highlands Ranch along Plaza Dr., one mile west of Lucent Blvd. next to the Wind Crest retirement community. The pond at Fly’n B Park features a pier and fishing dock from which anglers can cast their line.
Johnny’s Pond
Location: 3187 Plaza Drive
Fish Species:
- Channel Catfish
- Bluegill
- Largemouth Bass
Directions: Johnny’s Pond is located in the northwestern part of Highlands Ranch along Plaza Dr., more than one mile west of Lucent Blvd. next to the Windcrest retirement community. The pond features a picnic shelter and dock.
Parking is only available at Fly’n B Park, which is a quarter mile east on Plaza Drive. Street parking is not allowed at this location.
Spring Gulch Pond
Artificial fly and lure only, catch and release only.
Location: Accessed via the High Line Canal Trail

- Green Sunfish
Directions: Spring Gulch Pond is located in the western part of Highlands Ranch, west of Santa Fe Dr. along the High Line Canal Trail. Visitors can park at a trailhead parking lot west of Santa Fe Dr., on Carder Ct. and hop on the trail and walk south to the pond. The site features a park shelter and floating fishing dock. This pond is ADA accessible.
Wagon Box Pond
Location: In the Big Dry Creek Open Space, north of McArthur Ranch Road
Fish Species:
- Catfish
- Bass
- Bluegill
Directions: Wagon Box Pond is located in the eastern part of Highlands Ranch, north of McArthur Ranch Road. Visitors may access it via open space trail connections at Wagon Box Circle, Fox Meadow Drive, Redcone Way or Tracewood Circle.
Redstone Park Pond
Fishing at Redstone Pond is not available at this time. Please visit one of the other Highlands Ranch fishing locations above.
