This year, the 19-year-old playground equipment at Civic Green Park, 9370 Ridgeline Blvd., is scheduled to be replaced.

The playground will close Tuesday, Sept. 8 and construction is expected to last through late November.

Metro District staff met with users during a neighborhood meeting March 28, and a community feedback survey was available from March 31-April 12. Inspired by these responses, the new playground will be expanded from its current footprint and will have continuous rubber surfacing instead of wood chips. 

The new playground equipment was approved during the June board meetings, and will feature a tall main structure with slides, tunnels and lots of climbing elements for ages 5-12. Separate play and slide structures will be included for kids ages 2-5 and toddlers ages 6-23 months. Four swings with a shade awning will be added as well as a spinning rope tower, and a merry-go-round with at-grade entry to encourage ADA inclusive play.

The book sculptures near the playground will stay in place. The popular fountains and wading stream that are adjacent to the playground will not be included in renovation plans and will remain as they are. In order to accommodate construction, the upper fountains and wading stream closest to the playground will close for the season after Monday, Sept. 7.

To help renew aging equipment, the Metro District schedules 1-2 playground replacements each year. Staff considers the condition of existing equipment and available budget when planning replacements.

Playground repairs

The Metro District inspects its 21 playgrounds weekly checking for any hazards and normal wear and tear. Safety is our top priority, and periodically, damaged equipment has to be temporarily removed.

Current repairs underway:

• Plum Valley Park - The spring horse rocker is currently out of service. The replacement has been expedited by the installer, but the arrival date is still to be determined.
• Paintbrush Park - The slide on the 2–5-year-old playground is broken and has been barricaded with plywood. Replacement parts were ordered on July 23, 2026, and delivery from the manufacturer is anticipated on Sept. 23, 2026.
• Big Dry Creek Park - One of the tube slides on the main playground has been barricaded with plywood due to a cracked skylight. Staff is ordering replacement parts, but a completion timeline is not yet estimated.
• Falcon Park - The cricket spring rider was removed due to safety hazards.
