Proposed park on Plaza Drive

The location is just to the northeast of Fly'n B Park and adjacent to the High Line Canal.
 
The goal is to provide a public space for visitors to enjoy the outdoors and gather with others. It also provides space to expand the Metro District's popular community garden program, which consistently has more demand for garden plots than can be accommodated currently.
 
The design is being developed in partnership with Shea Properties, who will donate the land for this endeavor and will manage the construction of the park while they build affordable senior housing in the adjacent land parcel to the east. Funding for the park will come from existing Metro District general fund balance, as approved by the Metro District Board of Directors. Based on the agreement with Shea Properties, the cost to construct the park will not exceed $2.5 million.

Key proposed park amenities include:
  • A community garden with public garden plots, including raised garden beds to improve accessibility
  • A picnic shelter with grill and area for small group gatherings
  • Outdoor table tennis and outdoor board game tables
  • Bocce ball court, horseshoe pits and cornhole boards
  • An accessible, rubber-surfaced area designed for individual or group fitness activities
  • Sensory garden with a walking path
  • A kinetic sculpture serving as a visual focal point
  • Water-wise landscaping
  • A drinking water fountain
  • A restroom
  • Enhanced connectivity to the High Line Canal Trail from Plaza Drive 
  • Parking, including additional space to support nearby amenities (High Line Canal and Fly'n B Park)
